Parts and instructions work well May 23, 2010 The Clover (San Francisco and Sonora, CA) The parts arrived on time and were as ordered.
All the parts I needed were included and some parts were not necessary to fix my opener. My opener is more than 15 years old. The instructions did not match the configuration of my unit, but the concepts were the same and I was able to accommodate the differences once I understood the general procedure, the order of events and the components of the mechanism. It took about three hours to do the complete job, including small adjustments to the door open and door close stops and getting the correct tension on the chain. I completed the repair three weeks ago and have cycled the door at least 20 times, including the five test cycles. Everything works fine.
easy fix but be careful May 18, 2010 Joe Deasy (Hillsborough, NJ USA) If you are mechanically inclined, this kit offers an easy way to extend the life of your garage door opener. Just be careful because door openers can cause serious injuries. Do it right the first time, because the second time it will be much harder if you are missing a finger.
These parts, along with the instructions, provide an easy fix for what is arguably a defect in this popular door opener. It's obvious that the cheap plastic gear is the weak link in the machine. As I suspected, I only needed the main gear, but for a few dollars more, I ordered this kit in case I needed something else. Now I've got extra parts that I dont need (yet), but I would definitely do it the same way again.
I was able to skip most of the instruction steps (because I only needed to change the main gear) so it took me less than 30 minutes. If you need to change the worm gear, it will take much longer.
Garage Fix April 7, 2010 Sandra Ramos (Dayton, Nevada) Very happy to know there are products out there to find in Amazon to fix simply things like a garage door opener, Thank You.
As advertised March 25, 2010 Roy Stone It's great to be able to find such replacement parts without having to deal with Sears. They don't back their products and look for any way possible to avoid doing so. Even if a potential safety issue has been documented many times they refuse to accept responsibility. It takes actual personal injury or death before they "might".
Parts Fit March 24, 2010 J. Harmon (Elkhart, IN) The parts fit fine, the opener is a pain to take apart and the pins on the main drive shaft were a real PIA to get out. The pin got destroyed while I was removing it but a new one was included in the kit. The kit also included other parts that are not used.
