Not Available at Home Depot or Lowes July 28, 2010 Chantry Gilbert (Monterey, CA USA) Like another reviewer, my family recently moved into an older house with a very old Genie garage door opener. We went to Home Depot and bought a key-pad similar to this one, and we even asked the sales assistant whether it would work with the model we had at home. "It's Universal," she said, "As long as you have a Genie it will work." Not the case. After a call to Genie it turns out that for their products made prior to a certain year (I think in the mid 90's) they require the older technology.
Sadly, Genie stopped manufacturing and supporting devices for these garage doors in roughly 2009, so you can no longer purchase them from your typical off-the-shelf brick and mortar store. The Genie customer service rep advised me to try a specialty shop or look online, which I did.
I was able to pick up the GWK-BL for about $35, with free shipping. It did the trick, and as mentioned by another reviewer setup was very fast indeed.
Tip: I used velcro on the back of mine because the area around the garage door is made of an adobe/brick substance that I didn't want to drill into. Two sided velco tape can be picked up at any hardware store for just a few bucks. This has the added benefit of allowing me to take it down if I ever need to at some point in the future.
Overall pleased with this product, and it provides a lot of convenience for keyless entry into the garage by multiple family members. 4 stars instead of 5 because the slide cover is a poor design, which Genie recognized and changed in newer models. Remember, the new "intellicode" openers won't work if you've got an ancient garage door so you're stuck with this one. :-)
Opens the door! June 28, 2010 Hopefully Helpful (Sudbury, MA USA) We have an older non-Intellicode garage door and have used this model keypad in the past. It is very easy to setup and install. It does exactly what it is advertised to do. Since this is intended to be used outside, it has to operate in the elements (which at our house means in the rain and in mostly direct sunlight). Our previous keypad eventually failed after a couple of years so we bought another one (there aren't many option for older systems).
genie does not work with craftsman February 15, 2010 R. Weigel (harrisburg, pa) just purchased a genie wireless keypad...
DO NOT BELIEVE THE GENIE DOCUMENTATION -- "this should work with craftsman"...
it does not...
the genie spontaneously opens the garage door any time of the day or night...
GENIE DOES NOTHING TO HELP YOU...
BEWARE...
i will never buy genie again... EVER...
forewarned is forearmed

Sanford & Son ROCKS December 1, 2009 Matthew Perkins (S. Attleboro, MA USA) This item was shipped so fast and in perfect packaging. It was brand new as described and EXTREMELY easy to install. It gets used several times per day and for buying a new home with no way to open the automatic door except a door bell switch, this is perfect since everyone can use it.
Great for Older Garage Door Openers November 11, 2009 A user (Illinois, USA) We have an ancient garage door opener, so we didn't think we could get a wireless keypad for it. Well, this one works just great! It took about 2 minutes to program and another few minutes to attach. We've only been using it for a week, but no problems so far - except that my husband occasionally manages to push the cover up so hard that it comes right off.
